Abstract

Born in Dover, Racine, Wisconsin; died in Escanaba, Delta, Michigan.

Emigration from England

Sarah’s mother, Mary Ann Ridgeway, and father, John W. Appleton, as well as some of her siblings, Mary, Jane and John, emigrated from Lancashire County, England to Dover, Racine, Wisconsin.

Their route took them from Liverpool to New York. Their ship was most likely the Ohio and they arrived in New York on 18 May 1843.  Sarah’s uncle, Charles Appleton, also emigrated at that time.

The family is recorded in the 1841 England Census living on Naylor Street(?) in the hamlet of Hardshaw, St Helens, Prescot, Lancashire, England. Next, the family is recorded in the 1850 US Census, living in Dover, Racine, Wisconsin.
